Roll Out The Barrel

There’s a garden, what a garden, only happy faces bloom there
C
And-there’s-never any room there, for a worry, or a gloom there
G7
Oh there’s music, and there’s dancing, and a lot of sweet romancing
C
When they play the polka, they all get in the swing (Tacet)

[Verse 2]
F
Every time they hear that Oom-Pa-Pa
C
Everybody feels so Tra-La-La
G7
They want to throw their cares away
C
They all go Lah-dee-ahh-Dee-aay (Tacet)

[Verse 3]
F
Then they hear a rumble on the floor
C
It’s the big surprise they’re waiting for
G7
And all the couples form a ring
C
For miles around you’ll hear them sing… (Tacet)

[Chorus]
CG7
Roll out the barrel, we’ll have a barrel of fun
C
Roll out the barrel, we’ve got the blues on the run
C7F
Zing! Boom! Tararrel!, ring out a song of good cheer
DmB7CA7DmG7C
Now’s the time to roll the barrel, for the gang’s all here (Tacet)

[C] Everybody’s doin’ a [Am/C] brand‐new dance, now [C] (Comon baby, [Am/C] do the Locomotion) [C] I know you’ll get to like it if you [Am] give it a chance now [C] (Come on baby, [Am/C] do the Locomotion) [F] My little baby sister can [Dm] do it with me [F] It’s easier than learning your [D7] A‐B‐C’s So [C] come on, come on and [G7] do the Locomotion with [C] me

You gotta swing your hips, now [F] Come on, baby. Jump [C] up Jump back Well, I [G7] think you’ve got the knack.

[C] Now that you can do it, [Am/C] let’s make a chain, now [C] (Come on baby, [Am/C] do the Loco‐motion) [C] A chug‐a chug‐a motion like a [Am] railroad train, now. [C] (Come on baby, [Am/C] do the Loco‐motion) [F] Do it nice and easy, now, [Dm] don’t lose control: [F] A little bit of rhythm and a [D7] lot of soul. So [C] come on, come on and [G7] do the Loco‐motion with [C] me.

You gotta swing your hips, now [F] Come on, baby. Jump [C] up Jump back Well, now, I [G7] think you’ve got the knack.

[C] Move around the floor in a [Am/C] Locomotion. [C] (Come on baby, [Am/C] do the Locomotion) [C] Do it holding hands if [Am/C] you get the notion. [C] (Come on baby, [Am/C] do the Locomotion) There’s [F] never been a dance that’s so [Dm] easy to do. It [F] even makes you happy when you’re [D7] feeling blue, So [C] come on, come on and [G7] do the Locomotion with [C] me

You gotta swing your hips now [F] That’s right [C] You’re doin’ fine [F] Come on baby [C] Jump up Jump back [F] You’re looking good [C]

MASHED POTATOES

It’s the latest, it’s the greatest
Mashed potato, ya, ya ,ya, ya

A Mashed potato started long time ago
With a guy named Sloppy Joe
You’ll find this dance is so cool to do
Come on baby, gonna teach it to you

Mashed potato, feel it in your feet now
Mashed potato, come on get the beat now
Baby, come on honey, come on baby, ya, ya, ya, ya

And then they dance it through and through
They look for records they can do it to
They got a dance was outta sight
Doin’ the lion sleeps tonight

ya a weem o wep a weem o wep
(Mashed potato) ya, ya, ya, ya
(It’s the latest) oh, baby
(It’s the greatest) come on, honey
Ya, ya, ya, ya

Now everybody is doin’ fine
They dance alone or in a big boss line
And they discovered it’s the most man
The day they did it to Please Mr. Postman

wait a minute, wait a minute
(Mashed potato) deliver the letter
(It’s the latest) oh, baby
(It’s the greatest) come on, honey
Ya, ya, ya, ya

Well they got with more and more
Ya ought to see ’em around the floor
The mashed potato long long list
They even do it to Dear Lady Twist

get up on your tail now
(Mashed potato) ya, ya, ya, ya
(It’s the latest) come on, baby
(It’s the greatest) oh, honey
Ya, ya, ya, ya

feel the groovy beat now

Roll Out The Barrel

There’s a garden, what a garden, only happy faces bloom there

MASHED POTATOES

lesson 1 ) Mashed Potatoes and dance along with Dee Dee Sharp

Lyrics below

the Hitchike

Locomotion

key:C,

artist:Little Eva

writer:Gerry Goffin and Carole King

There’s a garden, what a garden, only happy faces bloom there
C
And-there’s-never any room there, for a worry, or a gloom there
G7
Oh there’s music, and there’s dancing, and a lot of sweet romancing
C
When they play the polka, they all get in the swing (Tacet)

Everybody feels so Tra-La-La
G7
They want to throw their cares away

They all go Lah-dee-ahh-Dee-aay (Tacet)

[Verse 3]
F
Then they hear a rumble on the floor
C
It’s the big surprise they’re waiting for
G7
And all the couples form a ring
C
For miles around you’ll hear them sing… (Tacet)

[Chorus]
CG7
Roll out the barrel, we’ll have a barrel of fun
C
Roll out the barrel, we’ve got the blues on the run

Zing! Boom! Tararrel!, ring out a song of good cheer

Mendocino

Sir Douglas Quintet is back.
We’d like to thank all our beautiful friends all over the country,
And all the beautiful vibrations.
We love you.

Teeny bopper, My teenage Lover,
I caught your waves last night,
It set my mind a wond’ rin’
You’re such a groove, please
Don’t move,
Please stay in my love house by
The river.

Fast talkin’ guys with strange
Red eyes
Have put things in your head,
It set my mind a wonderin’,
I love you so, Please don’ t go,
Please stay here with me in Mendocino
Mendocino, Mendocino,
Where life’s such a groove,
You blow your mind in the morning,
We used to walk through the park.
Make love along the way in
Mendocino
Like I told you Can you, dig it?
If you want to groove
I’ll be glad to have you
I Love you so

96 TEARS

Too many teardrops for one heart to be crying
Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on

You’re way on top now since you left me
You’re always laughing way down at me
But watch out now, I’m gonna get there
We’ll be together for just a little while
And then I’m gonna put you way down here
And you’ll start crying ninety-six tears
Cry, cry

And when the sun comes up, I’ll be on top
You’ll be right down there, looking up
And I might wave, come up here
But I don’t see you waving now
I’m way down here, wondering how
I’m gonna get you but I know now
I’ll just cry, cry, I’ll just cry

Too many teardrops for one heart to be crying
Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on

You’re gonna cry ninety-six tears
You’re gonna cry ninety-six tears
You’re gonna cry, cry, cry, cry now
You’re gonna cry, cry, cry, cry
Ninety-six tears

Come on and let me hear you cry, now
Ninety-six tears, woo
I wanna hear you cry
Night and day, yeah, all night long

Uh, ninety-six tears, cry, cry, cry
Come on, baby, let me hear you cry now, all night long
Uh, ninety-six tears, yeah, come on now
Uh, ninety-six tears

July 2,2023 2-4 pm -Backyard Music Makers featuring Patriotic, Summer and Dance songs.

Welcome back oldies music lovers . Summer’s here – the weather is fine  and we’re ready to rock and roll  again like we did last summer- as we relive the Happy Days with the greatest music. Whether you sing or play please come share your voice or instrument or both.
Got a couple favorite songs from The 50s/60s? Send them along to [email protected] and we’ll add them to the plsylist , which will be posted here at https://oldiescountry.com/backyard-music-makers/

We’re a group of young people mostly in our 50s,60s and 70s playing and singing mostly 50s, 60s and some 70s music purely for fun with the music and memories growing up. Many or most of our favorite artists are either gone or no longer perform so it is up to us to help keep this great music alive while paying tribute to it and the artists and writers who gave it to us .

Will try to add lyrics and chords for every song , as possible, before July 1. Also refer to your music books or Jim’s Songs, Chordify or Guitar Tabs (biggest variety and selection) or A-Z LYRICS online. So it will be best to rely on a little modern technology in your tablets and phones as much as i rather not

2. America from west side story

ike the island Manhattan (I know you do)
Smoke on your pipe and put that in!

I like to be in America
Okay, buy me in America
Everything free in America
For a small fee in America

Buying on credit is so nice
One look at us and they charge twice
I have my own washing machine
What do you have don’t you keep clean?

Skyscrapers bloom in America
Cadillacs zoom in America
Industry boom in America

12 in a room in America
Lots of new housing with more space
(Lots of doors slamming in our face)
I’ll get a terrace apartment
Better you get rid of your accent

Life can be bright in America
If you can fight in America
Life is all right in America
If you’re all white in America

America
La, la, la, la, la, la, America
America

Here you are free and you have pride
Long as you stay on your own side
Free to do anything you choose
Free to wait tables and shine shoes

Everywhere grime in America
Organized crime in America
Terrible time in America
You forget I’m in America

I think I’ll go back to San Juan
I know a boat you can get on (bye, bye!)
Everyone there will give big cheer! (Hey)
Everyone there will have moved here

Aw, aw, aw!
Aw, aw, aw!
Aw, aw, aw!

Hey (hey)
Hey (hey)

Hey
Hi
Hey, ha

Hey!

“Kathy”, I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
“Michigan seems like a dream to me now”
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I’ve gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said “Be careful, his bowtie is really a camera”

“Toss me a cigarette, I think there’s one in my raincoat”
“We smoked the last one an hour ago”
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

“Kathy, I’m lost”, I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I’m empty and aching and I don’t know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They’ve all come to look for America
All come to look for America
All come to look for America

SUPER MEDLEY FEÀTURE – a bit of everything

Cat Mother and the All Nite News Boys had a #21 hit in 1969 (Polydor), ‘Good Ole Rock and Roll,’ produced by Jimi Hendrix! It’s the American musical story of many of us and figures prominently in below featured medley- both a novelty and bit of Americana:

13. 50s/60s Oldies Medley-All songs same 4 chords
(C -AM-F- G7) for you musicians

Those oldies but goodies reminds m1e of you The songs of the past bring back memories of you I always remember the first night we met The songs they were playing I never will forget

When I was just a little boy
You know my one and only joy
Was listening to that good old rock and roll
When I was, well, I just turned 23
and if you want to get a message to me
All you gotta do is listen to that good old rock and roll:

They’re really rockin’ in Boston, and Philadelphia, PA
Deep in the heart of Texas to San Francisco Bay
All over St. LOUIS and down in New Orleans
all the cats wanna dance with sweet little sixteen

I’m gonna tell Aunt Mary about Uncle John
He said he got the misery but know I having fun
Oh baby, yeah, oh baby oh baby
Having lotta fun tonight

Chantilly lace and a pretty face and a ponytail hanging down
Awiggle in her walk, a giggle in her talk
Makes the worl go ’round
There ain’t nothing in the world like a big eyed girl
She likes to act so funny, likes to spend my money
Makes me feel real loose like a long neck goose
oh baby that’s a what I
like

Come along mama whole lotta shakin goin on
I said come on honey
A we got chicken in the barn
Come on woman whole lotta shakin goin on

Well you can knock me down
You can step on my face
Slander my name all over the place
Do anything that you want to do
But uh uh honey lay off of them shoes
Don’t step on my blue suede shoes
Well you can do anything but lay off my blue suede shoes

Come along and be my party doll
Come along and be my party doll
Come along and be my party doll
And I’ll make love to you to you
And I’ll make love to you

When I was just a little boy
You know my one and only joy
Was listening to that good old rock and roll
:

Oh, one last kiss (from bye bye birdie)
Give me one last kiss,
It never felt like this,
No, never felt like this,
You know I need your love.
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Oh, give me one last kiss!
Oh, one more time,
Oh, baby, one more time,
It really is sublime,
Oh honey, so sublime!
You know I need your love.
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Oh, give me one last kiss

Some Enchanted Evening (from South Pacific )
you may see a stranger,
You may see a stranger across a crowded room,
And somehow you know, you know even then,
That somehow you’ll see her again and again.

Blue moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Blue moon
You knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

Heart and soul, I fell in love with you Heart and soul, the way a fool would do, madly Because you held me tight And stole a kiss in the night Heart and soul, I begged to be adored Lost control, and tumbled overboard, gladly That magic night we kissed There in the moon mist

Somewhere beyond the sea Somewhere waiting for me My lover stands on golden sands And watches the ships that go sailin’ Somewhere beyond the sea She’s there watching for me If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to her arms I’d go sailing

Lollipop, Lollipop
Oh, Lolli-Lolli-Lolli
Lollipop, Lollipop
Oh, Lolli-Lolli-Lolli
Lollipop, Lollipop
Oh, Lolli-Lolli-Lolli
Lollipop pop, (boom boom boom
boom)

Lollipop, Lollipop
Oh, Lolli-Lolli-Lolli
Lollipop, Lollipop
Oh, Lolli-Lolli-Lolli
Lollipop, Lollipop
Oh, Lolli-Lolli-Lolli
Lollipop pop, (boom
boom boom boom)

My boy Lollipop You made my heart go giddy-up You are as sweet as candy You’re my sugar dandy Well oh, my boy Lollipop Never ever leave me Because it would grieve me My heart told me so

Earth angel, Earth angel, will you be mine? My darling dear, love you all the time. I’m just a fool, a fool in love with you. Earth angel, Earth angel, the one I adore Love you for ever, and ever more. I’m just a fool, a fool in love with you.

Oh, Donna, oh, Donna Oh, Donna, oh, Donna I had a girl, Donna was her name Since she left me, I never been the same ‘Cause I love my girl Donna, where can you be? Where can you be? Now, that you’re gone, I’m left all alone All by myself to wonder ‘Cause I love my girl Donna, where can you be? Where can you be?

Dream, dream, dream, dream Dream, dream, dream, dream When I want you in my arms When I want you and all your charms Whenever I want you, all I have to do is Dream, dream, dream, dream When I feel blue in the night And I need you to hold me tight Whenever I want you, all I have to do is Dream

Each time we have a quarrel, it almost breaks my heart ‘Cause I’m so afraid that we will have to part Each night I ask the stars up above Why must I be a teenager in love?

I wonder why, I love you like I do Is it because I think you love me too? I wonder why, I love you like I do, like I do

Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl As I walk through this world Nothing can stop the Duke of Earl And-a you, you are my girl And no one can hurt you, oh no

When this old world starts getting me down And people are just too much for me to face I climb way up to the top of the stairs And all my cares just drift right into space

(Tribute to ongwriter Cynthia weil)

You never close your eyes anymore
When I kiss your lips
And there’s no tenderness like before
In your fingertips

You’re trying hard not to show it (Baby)
But baby, baby, I know it

[Chorus]
You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’
Whoa, that lovin’ feelin’
You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’
Now it’s gone, gone, gone, whoa-oh-oh-oh

I’d like to be Under the sea In an octopus’ garden In the shade He’d let us in Knows where we’ve been In his octopus’ garden In the shade

While I’m far away from you my baby I know it’s hard for you my baby Because it’s hard for me my baby And the darkest hour is just before dawn Each night before you go to bed my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby And tell all the stars above This is dedicated to the one I love

There were bells on a hill
But I never heard them ringing
No, I never heard them at all
‘Til there was you

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
‘Til there was you

Till the moon deserts the sky
Till the all the seas run dry
Till then I’ll worship you

Till the tropic sun grows cold
Till this young world grows old
My darling, I’ll adore you

You are my reason to live
All I own I would give
Just to have you adore me

Over the mountain
Across the sea
There’s a girl, she’s waiting for me

Cross over the river, beyond every cloud
She’s passed the wind that’s blowing loud
Over the mountain, a girl waits for me

Do you remember when we met?
That’s the day I knew you were my babe
I wanna tell you how much I love you

Come with me, my love
To the sea, the sea of love
I wanna tell you just how much I love you

Come with me
To the sea
Of love

Hold me close and Tell me how you feel Tell me love is real Words of love you Whisper soft and true Darling, I love you

Words of love you
Whisper soft and true
Darling, I love your

Took a walk and passed your house late last night All the shades were pulled and drawn way down tight From within, the dim light cast two silhouettes on the shade Oh, what a lovely couple they made

I was alright for a while I could smile for a while But I saw you last night, you held my hand so tight As you stopped to say, “Hello” Oh, you wished me well, you couldn’t tell

Where are you little star?
(Where are you?)

Whoa oh, oh, oh uh oh
Ratta ta ta too, ooh ooh
Whoa oh, oh, oh uh oh
Ratta ta ta too, ooh ooh

Twinkle, twinkle little star
How I wonder where you are
Wish I may, wish I might
Make this wish come true tonight
Searched all over for a love
You’re the one I’m thinkin’ of

Ah, ya ya ya ya, ya ya ya ya, ya ya ya ya Little darling oh little darling O-oh where a-are you? My lover I was wronger To try to love two Ahh uha uha uha uha Knowing well that my lover Was just for you uh only you

Dreamin’ I’m always dreamin’ Dreamin’ love will be mine Searchin’ I’m always searchin’ Hopin’ someday I’ll find Someone, someone to love me Someone to need me but until then

Weeheeheehee dee heeheeheehee weeoh aweem away Weeheeheehee dee heeheeheehee weeoh aweem away In the jungle, the mighty jungle The lion sleeps tonight In the jungle the quiet jungle The lion sleeps tonight

There’s a cat in the funny papers we all know (Alley-Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop) He lived way back a long time ago (Alley-Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop) He don’t eat nothin’ but a bear cat stew (Alley-Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop) Well, this cat’s name is Alley-Oop (Alley-Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop)

She was afraid to come out of the locker She was as nervous as she could be She was afraid to come out of the locker She was afraid that somebody would see

Don’t know much about history
Don’t know much biology
Don’t know much about a science book
Don’t know much about the French I took

But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me, too
What a wonderful world this would be
