One of many aspects of Brian Wilson that we found especially interesting was his connection to Phil Spector, or maybe we should say his fascination with Phil Spector. Just as Brian Wilson was brought up on The Four Freshmen,  Bryan Wilson became not only fascinated but almost obsessed with Phil Spector, particularly ‘Be my baby’ by the Ronnettes which he often tells the story of having to pull off the road when he heard the song first come on the radio as he was overwhelmed by it.
on a personal level Wilson and spector knew each other, in fact Wilson played on at least one of specters songs in session before getting unceremoniously b o o t e d from the recording session for supposed lack of ability. Yet Wilson persisted with his Fascination for the Specter sound if not the man any tried to if not duplicate and come up with his own wall of sound, but never really did. Instead, he came up Brett Wilson came up with some songs they were in the Specter Style such as don’t worry baby, which he had written for Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes who was the lead singer on being my baby. But again the difficult specter turned it down and the Beach Boys recorded it successfully; became a big hit.
Another Specter song, less well known than be my baby was, why dont they let us fall in love, a song written by specter, La granite and Jeff Perry – originally recorded by The Ronettes in 1963 but which sat on the Shelf until 1976 when it was part of a UK specter album . Specter surprisingly Never released a song believing it wasn’t hit material and instead I had the r o n n e t t s record be my baby. I think we know that specters judgment was correct. the group from New Orleans cover the Dixie cups , released it gee the Moon is shining bright, with reworked lyrics and the different title, in 1965, and failed to reach above number 102 on the charts. The song has since become popular with hardcore Specter fans including Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys who recorded the song themselves, so a slower, less exciting version of the song but even Brian Wilson would probably admit to seen that he was not able to reproduce the Specter sound
